Introducing

With the Quadrat collection, artist Luis Urribarri debuts his furniture line VASCO.

The collection draws from the sensibilities of brutalist architecture—its heavy stature and authority jump out at first glance. Elegance plays with this domination through the silhouettes of the chairs, their forms nodding to Japanese joinery techniques for inspiration. There is a logical and secure feeling here, but also a sense of mystery.

This collection presents uncomplicated materials with straightforward construction—and this isn’t surprising considering Urribarri’s oeuvre. The artist has long explored rawness and form through his sculpture and painting, and will be continuing this exploration through the medium of furniture making. The Quadrat chairs are stained solid oak wood, with the lounge chair featuring a black cow hide seat. The collection comprises four different styles: two dining chairs, a lounge chair, and an accent chair.

VASCO

“Quadrat has a commanding presence in a room. Sitting in one of the chairs though, you feel cocooned and protected. I was driven by this push-and-pull between the scales and perception depending on the position you’re experiencing the chairs from.”

—Luis Urribarri
